The ’1/36/12/50′ challenge // You decide what I do!

Hello,

I enjoy that all of you reading my blog, so I want to give you the possibility to participate.

The idea came into my mind two days ago, and I think this will be fun.

The basic idea is:

1. one roll of film

2. one camera

3. one fast 50 mm lens

4. one weekend

5. 36 frames

6. 12 topics

7. 3 frames per topic

8. 12 photos to be published

What I want you to do is to vote for a camera, a film and propose a topic (e.g. “women drinking a cup coffee” or “train station”). After a week or so I’ll start a poll with the proposed topics, so you can vote the final 12 topics.

After this, I’ll load the selected camera with the this special roll of film and spend a weekend in the city trying to accomplish the challenges you give me.

So the rules are: only one roll of film, a maximum of three frames per topic and 12 challenges.

When the film is developed I will present you the 12 final photos.

I will give you the possibility to vote for your favorite picture and I will send a 20×30 cm high quality print to the person who proposed the “winning photo”.

I’d be glad If you would participate  and I’m curious how you will try to challenge me.

Dear facebook visitors, you are welcomed to join this as well. 😉

 Thank you!

I like you guys, so here’s an other photo.

Nikon F80, Nikkor AF 50 1.8D, Fujifilm Sensia 200

Enjoy and take care,

Jimi

  1. I like the idea of your photo challenge. Here are some topics to consider:
    1. Beauty in decay.
    2. Hidden from view.
    3. Out of season.
    4. Guided by light.
    5. Sign of the times.
    6. Reclaimed by nature.
    7. Before mobile communication.
    8. Anonimity.
    9. Industrial power.
    10. Frozen in time.
    11. To be continued.
    12. City sunrise.
Hope you find some of these interesting enough to include in the poll.
Good luck with the challenge and I look forward to the results.
    Best wishes
    Nigel.

    • Oh thank you, I love your proposals, especially “Beauty in decay”. I’ll include all of these in the poll. I guess the poll will be huge.
      Best regards,
      Jimi.

    • Well, you’ve got to come around for a visit. Hamburg is lovely 😉 If you can call a city with 2 million citizens “lovely” 😉
I like your proposal, already got an idea. 😉
      Jimi

  2. Not the most original topic, but I like the idea of “manufactured landscapes”.

[I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the movie with the same title but it’s a documentary on one of my favourite photographers, Edward Burtynsky, it’s quite good]

    • Ah this one will be tough. 😉
But I’ll add this to the poll. Have you seen the work of EVOL? A berlin based street artist. I think you’d like his work.
      Thanks for the comment.
      Jimi

  3. What a great idea!!! 🙂
And for the challenge: cranes of Hamburg! 🙂 I want to see them in more detail 🙂
    Good luck with your challenge!

  4. Jimi, I think this is a very good and original idea – great stuff!

    Now two challengeS –

    “Making the ordinary extraordinary”

“The way I see the world”

    How’s that? Good luck!!!

    Adrian

  5. Love the idea of this challenge. First time viewing your blog and I haven’t done much digging so Ive voted and I’m going to propose a couple of topics for the challenge. :-

    * Symmetry

    * Glamour in the City

    * Like something from the movies

  6. Dear Jimi,

you know that I love most of your photographs. Especially I admire the great variety of your subjects. I would like to see architectural details in black and white.

    Good luck!

    Kram

  7. I used to enjoy shooting Tri-X 400 pushed to 1600 (shot on Nikon F-3 and later F-4). It’s fantastic for shooting subjects with a lot of detail in low light. With that in mind, I’d suggest a topic of ‘people in their work environment’ and the grittier the environment, the better.

I’m enjoying the photographs, although they are a distraction from what I’m supposed to be doing.

  8. Seems that it would be great fun and also so exciting too. Good Luck for this.

    1) Early moments of a day in the city life…
    2) A moment of a cafe…
    3) Birds in the city…
    4) People in the street…
    5) Early moments of a night in the city life…
    6) School children…
    7) Taxi…
    8) Shadows
    9) Reflections
    10) Music (reminds us Mendelssohn or Brahms)
    11) Street lights
    12) Breathing

I hope it can give you an idea…. Thank you, with my love, nia

  9. Breath-taking shot! Yes, i would like to see the train, woman with coffe, random subjects on streets, vintage places or things through your lens! Cheers.
